Summerfun

During five weeks in July, The Common School transforms into a summer camp where we make masks and puppets, study creepy crawlers, slip and slide, sing, and plant a garden. The program, open to the greater Amherst community, is now in its third decade of working with young children.

The spirit and tone of The Common School’s program are uniquely translated into a summer camp format: in-depth investigation and a hands-on, material rich curriculum combined with outdoor fun and adventure.

Our Goals for Summerfun

  1. To offer age-appropriate, in-depth, creative and integrated curricula that will appeal to a wide range of styles, interactions and interests.

  2. To create a program that encourages the development of learning in a stimulating, playful and exuberant setting.

  3. To promote an atmosphere that encourages the creation of community, respect for all its members, and respect for our surroundings.

  4. To provide parents with a safe, caring, consistent and responsive environment in which to entrust their children.
